Waipataki Retreat

Location: Waipatiki Beach, Hawkes Bay.

Architect: Chloe Coles

A retirement villa, a winter hibernation hole, a solar power battery hub.

This little tin shed is now complete. The clients occupied a damp and shady woolshed that sits further in to the valley. They are excited to step into the next phase in comfort, into the sunlight and into modern standards of warmth and amenity.

This new home is a humble corrugated iron sibling for the 1960s woolshed: the modern component of an intergenerational commune.

It incorporates universal design principles that will allow greater accessibility and flexibility into the future.

An elegant shed. A true family collaboration.
